Tom served on the Minnesota Chorale board of directors (1992-94); St. Paul Charter Commission (1992-98); Boy Scouts of America Indianhead Council Skyline District Board (1992-93); Prepare St. Paul board of directors (1997-98); German-American Chamber of Commerce of Minnesota board of directors (1995-96); Minnesota State High School League Region 3AA or 4AA boards and/or state delegate assembly (1990s to 2008); St. Paul College/Technical College General Advisory Committee (mid-1990s; 2002-05); Metro ECSU executive board (2003-2009; chair since 2006); Minnesota Service Cooperatives board of directors (2008-09); and the Minnesota School Boards Association board of directors (2004-06).
